Woman dies in Chilean processing plant accident

Chilean salmon farmer Salmones Camanchaca said it was working closely with the authorities following the death of a worker at a processing plant.

The fatal accident occurred last Thursday morning at the company’s plant in Tomé in the Biobío region.

“Salmones Camanchaca regrets the tragic death of our colleague Sindy Araneda Alarcón, following an accident that occurred at the facilities of the plant located in the Commune of Tomé, Biobío Region,” said the company in a press release.

It said the competent authorities were informed in accordance with procedures and are currently working, with full collaboration of the company, to determine the causes of the accident.

“Salmones Camanchaca staff are accompanying the family of Sindy Araneda and her work colleagues, giving them all the necessary support in these difficult moments. Our company and all its personnel are very affected and deeply regrets the passing of one of their own,” the company said.
