Chilean salmon sector data provider Datasalmon has been acquired and at the same time merged with Skills, a production information platform for the aquaculture industry, the companies have announced. The merged company will use the Skills name.

“With this step we can say with confidence that we are the most complete and accurate aquaculture information platform for the Chilean market,” Skills general manager Nicolás Contreras said in a message to customers.

“In order to provide a better and customer-oriented service to our clients, we will migrate all Datasalmon content to the Skills platform, both on the web and the mobile application, which will allow the information to be filtered to the client’s liking to extract insights and be able to make decisions that have a real impact.

“We are also working with some clients to integrate their own data into ours, resulting in power BI (business intelligence) dashboards that allow them to make decisions with a focus on improving internal processes and increase their efficiency considerably.”

Increasingly better

Datasalmon.com will cease to exist as of January 1, 2024. All data will be migrated to the Skills platform.

The paid-for service will provide information such as mortality, number of fish per producer and per farm, Caligus (sea lice), upcoming harvests, average weights at each farm and more.

Skills points out that customers only pay for the modules they choose and not for the ones they don’t use.

“We hope to be an increasingly better partner for industry players, providing them with valuable information for decision making and thus giving greater competitiveness to the Chilean market,” said Contreras, who was formerly chief executive of Datasalmon.
