The commitment was made at the Business for Peace ceremony in Oslo today, at which Hindar and other global business leaders pledged to: “end poverty, combat climate change and fight injustice and inequality”.

“Whereas salmon will not be the major contributor to end hunger, aquaculture is necessary to meet the growing demand for protein and ensure healthy diets for all. The salmon industry is already relatively advanced within aquaculture, and transfer of technology and practices to other forms of aquaculture can enhance the overall output and resource efficiency of global aquaculture. I will continue to work with my peers in the Global Salmon Initiative, engaged in our common agenda, in finding the best way forward to meet the meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” says Hindar.

Cermaq, which has operations in Norway, Chile and Canada, is a fully-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation.
