Salmon farming stalwart named as Cermaq Chile boss
Salmon farmer Cermaq has announced former Skretting chief Steven Rafferty as its new managing director in Chile.
“I am very pleased to announce that Steven Rafferty will be the new MD for Cermaq Chile. He is definitely the right person for this task, bringing with him broad knowledge from the industry and is business savvy,” said Geir Molvik, chief executive of Norwegian-headquartered and Japanese-owned Cermaq.
“He also knows Chilean culture and business well, which is important for building our operations in Chile.”
Second time at Cermaq
It is Rafferty’s second spell with Cermaq, having been chief financial officer from May 2008 to November 2009 and then chief operating officer farming for a further five months.
Rafferty spent 11 years with Marine Harvest, including several years in Chile, before joining Cermaq for the first time in 2008 and was chief financial officer for Morpol before joining feed producer Skretting.
His most recent role was as aquaculture director for marine, offshore and engineering consultancy Global Maritime.
Stronger profile
He takes up the Cermaq post on June 1 and is relocating to Puerto Montt.
“I very much look forward to lead Cermaq’s operations in Chile,” said Rafferty in a press release.
“Cermaq has changed significantly since I left in 2010 and I am delighted and excited to lead the Chilean operations and be part of the global management that will take the company into its next phase. Today, the company is more advanced and with a much stronger profile and market presence.”
