Salmon Pool puts Loch Duart in frame for FDF award
Salmon farmer Loch Duart has been chosen as a finalist for the Food and Drink Federation Awards 2019.
The company has been shortlisted in the Community Partner category for its Salmon Pool fund which provides funding for charities and projects benefiting people in Loch Duart’s farming areas in Sutherland and the Uists.
The Salmon Pool is a partnership with Cargill Aqua Nutrition, owner of Loch Duart’s feed supplier, EWOS.
Diligent fund allocation
Loch Duart managing director Alban Denton said: “Being shortlisted for the Food and Drink Federation Community Partner Award is just wonderful. Without the highly experienced, committed and loyal local communities which are central of Loch Duart’s day-to-day involvement in Sutherland and the Uists, we wouldn’t be able to nurture and rear our extraordinary salmon.
“Integral to the success of the Salmon Pool initiative is the allocation of funds. Loch Duart’s HR and community manager, Rebecca MacInnes, manages this distribution in a careful and diligent manner, deeply sensitive to the culture of the local communities. We can’t wait to share our stories and community experiences at the FDF Awards.”
£31,000 distributed
The Salmon Pool fund has distributed more than £31,000 for a variety of causes including outdoor clothing and learning equipment for Scourie Primary School, an extension of community transport by Connect Assynt Ltd and the completion of a footpath network by Scourie and Badcall Grazings Committee.
The FDF Awards 2019, take place Thursday 19 September at The Royal Lancaster, London.
The other finalists in the Community Partner category are: Valeo Foods UK – Rowse Hives for Lives; Coca-Cola Great Britain – ParkLives; FareShare – Fight Hunger, Create Change; Bags of Taste –combating food poverty; Company Shop Group – Community Shop: building stronger individuals and more confident communities.
