A report release last week from Statistics Canada for 2015 shows that the value of total exports of farmed salmon has significantly increased - over 64% compared to 2014.

Finfish sales, which accounted for 91.1% of sales of aquaculture products and services in 2015, increased 27.9% to $826.5 million.

Sales of all aquaculture products and services in Canada increased 23.4% from 2014 to $907.4 million in 2015. The increase in sales was attributable to recovering salmon production following lower output in 2014.

The gross value added to the economy by the aquaculture industry decreased 32.5% from 2014 to $165.9 million. The decrease was largely the result of rising operating expenses.
