He is expected to begin his new position in August.

A Canadian, Gaskill has worked in the salmon aquaculture industry for 24 years and with Marine Harvest for the past 12 years. Throughout his career he has had a variety of roles, starting as a hatchery manager to his present role as regional director in Marine Harvest Norway since 2015. He is familiar with MH's operations in Canada as he had been working for MH Canada from 2005 to 2015 as both fresh water director and production director.

Input and leadership

Marine Harvest’s chief operating officer of farming, Marit Solberg, said: "We feel that Jamie's wide range of expertise will serve us well as we start up on the East Coast of Canada. He is familiar with the country and how they operate. We look forward to the input and leadership that he will provide in this new geographical area for Marine Harvest."

Gaskill’s first responsibility will be to formulate a business plan for the region and set up a new staffing organisation for freshwater, seawater and processing departments.

In February this year, Marine Harvest bought assets owned by the Gray Aqua Group of Companies, including one hatchery and two farming licenses in New Brunswick, seven farming licenses in Newfoundland, and one processing plant in Newfoundland. In addition, the company has applied for 17 farming licenses in Newfoundland which are yet to be approved.
