Listeria contamination prompts Canadian smoked salmon recall
Monsieur Émile Smokehouse is recalling its Smokehouse brand and unbranded smoked salmon products due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The refrigerated products were sold in markets across Quebec, Canada.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) test results confirmed the contamination and a Canada-wide recall of products has been issued.
“Consumers should not consume and distributors, retailers, and food service establishments such as hotels and restaurants should not sell or use the recalled products,” said the CFIA. All products should be thrown in the bin or returned to the retailer.
Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes does not smell or look spoiled. If consumed it can cause persistent flu like symptoms and even death in people with compromised immune systems.
