Salmon sector supplier increased turnover by 74% last year

Northeast Scotland-based engineering specialist Brimmond, which provides goods and services for fish farmers and the offshore energy sector, has announced a 74% increase in annual turnover for 2023 compared to the previous year.

Revenue for last year was £11.4 million, comfortably exceeding a forecast of £10m.

Among other things, Brimmond rents out its self-built NetJet high-pressure net cleaning pumps to salmon farmers and is the UK and Ireland distributor of Heila marine cranes and parts.

Brimmond, which has increased its headcount by 30% to 52 over the last year, said a number of high-value contract wins across multiple sectors had contributed to its increased turnover in 2023.

These include a five-year service contract with British Antarctic Survey (BAS) for crane servicing and engineering support on the Royal Research Ship (RRS), Sir David Attenborough, the design and manufacture of equipment for the Rosebank oil and gas field, and a long-term six-figure rental of the company’s largest marine crane to assist with the P&A (well plug and abandonment) decommissioning campaign of the Thistle Alpha oil platform in the North Sea.

An incredible team

Managing director Tom Murdoch said: “Whilst we anticipated growth for the company over the past financial year, the extent of that growth has far exceeded our expectations. I am extremely grateful to our incredible team for their hard work and commitment to delivering exceptional equipment and services, as well as welcoming new team members and helping train them to the highest standards of the ‘Brimmond way’.

“Over the past year we have recruited into every aspect of the business, from support services to engineering and apprentices to leadership; we are committed to increasing both our capability and capacity.

“For any SME exceeding the £10m turnover mark and surpassing a headcount of 50 is a significant milestone. Brimmond’s performance over the past financial year is one I am immensely proud of.”
