Biorigin earns environmental management rating

Biorigin, the Brazilian company that produces fish nutrition, health and welfare products from yeast derivatives, has achieved International Standards Organisation (ISO) environmental certification for its three Brazilian production units.

The Quatá, Lençóis Paulista and Macatuba facilities are now ISO 14001/2015 following an audit of the company’s environmental management practices.

ISO 14001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system (EMS). It provides a framework that an organization can follow, rather than establishing environmental performance requirements.

‘Solid path’

“Consumers seek healthy, natural alternatives that bring appeals for sustainability,” said Biorigin general manager Mario Steinmetz. “In addition, they require transparency from the food and pet food industries and from the animal protein chain, checking product labels and animal production condition and their impact on environment.

“We have built a solid path to demonstrate to our stakeholders that our ingredients, in addition to their natural origin, quality and technology, have important environmental added value to food and feed industries worldwide.”

Biorigin uses sugar cane as its raw material and was the first company to obtain the Bonsucro Chain of Custody certification for yeast extracts and derivatives produced from fermentable sugar and sugarcane yeast cream.
