Net(pen)flix: salmon industry comedy drama begins on September 12
A comedy drama set in the world of Norwegian salmon farming will be released globally on streaming platform Netflix on September 12.
Billionaire Island has been written by Anne Bjørnstad and Eilif Skodvin, the creative team behind Lilyhammer. That series, which starred actor and musician Steven Van Zandt as a mobster making a new life in Norway after giving evidence against his former bosses, marked the first time Netflix streamed a title across multiple countries and languages.
Filmed in Frøya
This autumn, Bjørnstad and Skodvin are reunited with Netflix on Billionaire Island, known as Milliardærøya in Norway. The series was recorded at Frøya in Trøndelag and depicts the salmon farming industry in what Netflix says is a new and humorous way.
Trine Wiggen stars as the ruthless owner of a Norwegian farming company who plans to buy out its local rival to become the world's largest salmon producer.
Other cast members include Bjarne Brøndbo, Ragne Grande, Svein Roger Karlsen, Kåre Conradi, Oddgeir Thune, Axel Bøyum, Manish Sharma, Frank Kjosås and Bjørn Sundquist, who played Wotan in another Norwegian Netflix title, Ragnarok.
