Benchmark strengthens its fish health team
Benchmark Genetics has appointed a senior researcher at fish farmer Cermaq to the newly created role of fish health manager for Atlantic salmon.
Dr Øyvind J. Brevik will be responsible for fish health and welfare in all the global production units connected with the Benchmark Genetics breeding programmes for salmon.
Before joining Benchmark, he was senior researcher in the global R&D fish health team at Cermaq, with a focus on applied science.
Brevik has an MSc in Aquamedicine and a PhD in Intracellular Bacterial Fish Pathogens from the University of Bergen. With more than 20 publications to his name, he has in-depth knowledge of emerging diseases, diagnostics, biosafety, and fish welfare, said Benchmark, announcing his appointment.

Becnhmark’s head of Production Norway and Global Fish Health, Rudi Ripman Seim, said: ‘I am very pleased that we have managed to attract Øyvind Brevik to join us.

Brevik said he was looking forward to joining the Benchmark team and working with fish health and welfare on ‘an egg-to-egg perspective’ with world-leading salmon breeding programmes.
