
Bakkafrost harvested 25,200 tonnes of salmon in first quarter
Scotland operation's fish had average weight of 6.7kg
Salmon farmer Bakkafrost harvested 25,200 gutted weight tonnes of fish in the Faroes and Scotland in the first quarter of this year, it said in a market update today.
The harvest volume comprised 18,900 gwt with an average weight of 5.1 kilos in the Faroes and 6,300 gwt with an average weight of 6.7kg in Scotland. In the same period last year, Bakkafrost harvested 14,294 gwt in the Faroes and 7,263 gwt in Scotland.
Incident-based mortality costs in Q1 2025 amounted to DKK 8 million (£896,000) in Scotland, down from DKK 18m in Q1 2024. There were no incident-based mortality costs in the Faroes.
Bakkafrost stocked 3.2 million smolts in the Faroes and 600,000 in Scotland.
The company’s fishmeal, oil and feed division sourced 109,500 tonnes of marine ingredients in Q1 and sold 31,300 tonnes of feed and 3,600 tonnes of fishmeal.
