Salmon farmer Bakkafrost Scotland harvested 27,900 gutted weight tonnes of fish last year, according to a trading update published by Faroese parent company Bakkafrost yesterday.

The Scotland harvest volume is 2,900 gwt – or 11.6% - more than guided by Bakkafrost at the start of 2024.

Bakkafrost’s harvest volumes for the final quarter of 2024 were 16,600 gwt in the Faroe Islands and 3,800 gwt in Scotland, where Bakkafrost has focused on harvesting most of its fish in the first half of the year.

The total harvest for 2024 in the Faroe Islands was 62,800 gwt, making last year’s total Bakkafrost Group harvest 90,700 gwt. 

Feed sales in Q4 2024 by Bakkafrost’s feed subsidiary, Havsbrún, were 38,900 tonnes, and Havsbrún sourced 42,000 tonnes of raw materials in the quarter. The total feed sales for 2024 amounted to 140,400 tonnes and in total 309,500 tonnes of marine raw material were sourced in 2024.
