Cooke wins on world stage
Brussels: Canadian Aquaculture pioneer Glen Cooke, who is CEO of Cooke Aquaculture, has been presented with the Person of the Year Award by IntraFish Media.
Glenn Cooke started Cooke Aquaculture as a small family-owned salmon farming company in New Brunswick, Canada. Over the past years the company has grown tremendously, starting a subsidiary in the USA, buying out companies in the UK, and even delving into sea bream and bass aquaculture in Spain. All the while, the company has been maintaining Best Aquaculture Practices certification and even obtaining positive ratings from Seafood Watch.
It was these reasons among many that resulted in Glenn Cooke receiving Person of the Year award.
"The process for selecting the IntraFish Media Person of the Year is usually a challenging one, with so many executives across this industry achieving so much across this sector," IntraFish Media Publisher Paal Korneliussen said in a release. "This year, that was not the case. Glenn was a clear and unanimous choice among our editors."
"Cooke’s work in expanding around the globe to make a truly geographically diverse group across several sectors has been remarkable, and has laid out a blueprint for how seafood companies might look in the future."
The Executive Director of the Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance (CAIA), Ruth Salmon, said: "We congratulate Glenn and his team of Canadian aquaculture farmers for this international recognition and their work towards healthy, sustainable and responsible aquaculture growth in Canada."
Mr Cooke received the award at Seafood Expo Global in Brussels this week.
