World Aquaculture event rescheduled for December
World Aquaculture 2020 (WA2020) has been rescheduled for December 5 to 8, 2021 at the Singapore EXPO Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event, which features expert presentations from aquaculture researchers and practitioners, was first postponed last year because of the Covid pandemic and was due to run from June 14-18 but has again been put back.
“With improvement of the Covid-19 situation around the world and in Singapore, we stay committed to organising an in-person event in Singapore while monitoring closely updates on the situation,” said the World Aquaculture Society (WAS), which organises the event.
“The world is gradually getting vaccinated while people are staying vigilant of their surroundings. Individuals who have completed the full vaccination regimen and have had time to develop sufficient protection can now gain entrance to events which have implemented pre-event clearance, without the need for the individual to undergo pre-event testing again.
“Activities related to the business event organisation are beginning to return, in preparation for the opening of travel into Singapore.”
Deadline for abstracts
Academics wishing to present their work at the conference must submit their abstract by July 16. Abstract submission and registration are available online at www.was.org.
The WAS said 90% of the booths for the trade show accompanying the conference have been sold, with some remaining available. Sponsorships are also available.
It is the first time that the World Aquaculture event has been held in Singapore, which has a growing focus on aquaculture in common with other countries throughout the Asian-Pacific region.
“Aquaculture is rapidly growing in the Asian-Pacific region and increasingly being integrated into the Singapore food systems; therefore [this is] the perfect time for the world aquaculture community to focus on Singapore,” said the WAS.
Keynote speakers at the plenary session are Grace Fu, Singapore’s sustainability and environment minister, and Dr Matthias Halwart, delivery manager for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation Fisheries and Aquaculture.
