RAS expert Preston joins Benchmark Genetics

Salmon egg supplier Benchmark Genetics has appointed experienced on-land aquaculture expert Andrew Cree Preston as its global technical manager for RAS (recirculating aquaculture systems).

Preston is the former head of aquaculture production and operations with Israeli RAS technology supplier AquaMaof and has considerable experience from a commercial farming perspective and in academic research.

In his new position, he will dedicate his time to customer service and sharing his skills and experiences to help the customers succeed and reach their production targets, Benchmark said in a press release.

A strong reputation

He has an impressive biography and a strong reputation within the aquaculture industry,” said Benchmark Genetics commercial director Geir Olav Melingen, who is confident that Preston’s contributions to the company’s land-based customer portfolio will strengthen its position as a leading supplier of genetics to this segment of the industry.

Preston holds a PhD in Aquaculture from the Institute of Aquaculture at the University of Stirling for research and development of triploid brown trout, and has held several research positions, including a postdoc at Stirling following his PhD.

Numerous species

He held a multifaceted role for Aquamoaf Aquaculture Technologies from 2017 until present. His work included leading research and development, heading the development of aquaculture production and operations and leading knowledge transfer.

His expertise comprises numerous aquatic species, including Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout, brown trout, Atlantic cod and Ballan wrasse. During his academic career, he was involved in research projects with leading global aquaculture, nutrition and pharmaceutical companies.
