Mowi Chile probes cause of feed barge blaze
Mowi is investigating the cause of a fire on board a feed barge at the Isolte Abel salmon farm in the Hualaihué commune in Los Lagos, Chile on Friday.
The eight people on board the barge when the fire started in the engine room were unhurt, the company said.
Mowi said on Friday: “The eight people, comprising colleagues and service providers, who were undertaking work in the farm at the time of the incident, are in perfect health, having not suffered any injury, thanks to the correct action of our staff that at all times followed the contingency plans established for these situations.”
No fuel spillage
The company gave its thanks for the support of the Chilean Navy, boats of other companies, neighbours and primarily the Hualaihué Fire Department.
It said there was no risk of fish escape and fuel spillage due to the incident.
Mowi said it had immediately started investigating the causes of the incident.
