Former Atlantic Sapphire director joins Abu Dhabi salmon farm project
Bruno Sardenberg, former special projects director with Florida-based on-land salmon farmer Atlantic Sapphire, has joined Abu Dhabi start-up Ocean Harvest as production director.
Ocean Harvest plans to produce 2,000 tonnes of Atlantic salmon annually in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facility in the United Arab Emirates.
“Atlantic Sapphire is such a great company, I am very proud to have been part of this amazing team and will be following closely its path of success,” said Sardenberg in a post on LinkedIn.
“I’m excited to announce that I have started on a new role as Director of Production with Ocean Harvest in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. I’ll be leading Ocean Harvest Phase 1 project development and joining the leadership team in shaping the future of the Company.”
Cobia and snapper
Prior to joining Atlantic Sapphire as engineering director in 2018, Sardenberg’s career included two and a half years as hatchery director of offshore cobia farmer Open Blue Sea Farms, and three years as mariculture production manager at Costa Rica fish farmer Martec, which grows spotted rose snapper (Lutjanus gutattus).
Ocean Harvest plans to design, build and operate its own farms in collaboration with its strategic partners, Brussels-based construction group BESIX and Abu Dhabi-based Tech Group, comprised of 17 operating companies in the fields of construction, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering, piling, ready mix, block manufacturing, paints, aluminium and glass work, steel fabrication and wood-joinery.
Ocean Harvest’s advisors include fish biologist and entrepreneur Bjorn Myrseth, one of the founders of Stolt Sea Farms, and a former chairman of both Atlantic Sapphire and of Morpol, the Polish salmon processing giant now owned by Mowi.
