Diver dies after fall on boat at Chilean salmon farm
A diver has died after a serious fall on board a boat at a fish farm run by Chile’s biggest salmon farmer, AquaChile.
Chile’s Maritime Authority reported that the tragedy occurred on the Poderosso II at the Lagrezze site 3.5 nautical miles from the Port of Melinka in Chile’s Aysén region.
The vessel set off for the port and its skipper made an emergency call to the port captain, who sent paramedics out on a boat to meet the vessel so that medical attention could be given as quickly as possible.
However, the diver could not be revived, and a doctor confirmed his death when the boat reached port.
The facts of the case have been reported to the Puerto Cisnes prosecutor, and the deceased was transferred to Quellón, to be delivered to the Legal Medical Service.
