Damen unveils its do-it-all workboat
Netherlands-based Damen Shipyards Group has published details of its latest workboat for the aquaculture industry, which has gone on sale in the UK and Norway.
The company said the Damen Utility Vessel (UV) 2613 was developed using feedback from fish farmers and offers extreme versatility, covering everything from harvesting to net cleaning and diving support to delousing.
The forward-facing vessel is prepared for the more stringent International Marine Organization Tier III emissions regulations that new vessels must comply with from next year. It comes ready for the installation of a Damen NOx Reduction System – selective catalytic conversion technology that can be easily installed during construction or as a retrofit – and can also be fitted with battery packs for silent shift operations.
Plug and play options
Damen said the vessel had “lots of plug and play options available” so that it can switch quickly from one duty to another. The UV 2613 can be installed with dynamic positioning, a multiple mooring system and a towing winch, for example, and can be fitted with a ramp in order to perform ferry duties if required.
A cargo hold of 85m² gives capacity for harvesting, and the vessel can be fitted with multiple cranes with capacity up to 220 t/m on the 110m² deck.
The UV 2613 has azimuth thrusters, together with a bow thruster, for manoeuvrability.
Under 200 GT
The vessel features a high bow height and freeboard of 1 metre minimum to avoid deck immersion and safe sailing, even in heavy seas. With a beam of 12.8 metres, the vessel is extremely stable, with no need for an anti-heeling system, said the boat builder.
The boat is 26 metres in length overall, with a load line length of 24 metres. The size is matched to British rules for the 200 gross tonne workboat code.
Damen first showed the UV 2613 design concept at Aqua Nor in Trondheim last year and is now in a position to take orders.
Versatile vessel
Sales manager Mike Besijn said: “We are very confident in the relevance of the UV 2613 for the growing aquaculture industry.
“Based on feedback we received from the market we have designed a versatile vessel, able to tackle a very wide range of duties, with a robust application of features ensuring the safety and sustainability of operations.
“We have already carried out the feasibility studies and completed the detailed engineering of the design – we’re ready to build this.”
Damen recently delivered a Multi Cat vessel to Mull-based Inverlussa Marine, which supplies workboat services to the Scottish salmon farming industry.
