AquaMaof buys stake in Norwegian on-land farm developer Kvidul
Recirculating aquaculture systems expert AquaMaof has become a strategic co-owner of a company developing a new 20,000 tonne on-land salmon farm in Norway.
Trondheim-based Kvidul AS is behind the plan for the RAS facility on Brennholmen in Åfjord municipality and will use AquaMaof technology.
Detailed zoning planning has been approved and Kvidul aims to have the plant ready for production in the first half of 2024.
Important partner
In an announcement today, Kvidul said it has entered into a framework agreement with Israel-based AquaMaof.
“Kvidul sees AquaMaof as a particularly important partner as a supplier of RAS technology. We are also pleased that AquaMaof has agreed to support Kvidul with financing by becoming a strategic co-owner of Kvidul AS, with certain reservations,” stated the Norwegian company.
“AquaMaof will deliver its RAS technology for an annual production of food fish up to 20,000 tonnes (whole fish equivalent) on Brennholmen - which will be built in two phases, each with up to 10,000 tonnes (WFE) annual production. In the first phase, a plant with an annual capacity of ten million smolts will also be delivered.”
Operating experience
Kvidul said that as well as providing a design that provides significant operational benefits, AquaMaof will also contribute with its operating experience and extensive support for a certain period after delivery of the facility, to ensure that equipment and technology work well and that its operating personnel receive good training.
Work is being done by Kvidul on other specific locations in the region for the establishment of more land-based facilities which will also be supplied by Aquamaof.
Green value chain
“We aim to acquire additional facilities from AquaMaof in accordance with Kvidul’s development plan. In addition, a collaboration agreement will be entered into between AquaMaof and Kvidul Aqua, linked to the green value chain, which has been developed by Kvidul AS,” said the company.
“Kvidul has spent a lot of time evaluating both technologies and equipment that are available in relation to RAS in the market.
“We are very pleased that AquaMaof has chosen to enter into a long-term collaboration with us.”
