Sessions include aquaculture socio-economics, fish feeding and nutrition, recirculating aquaculture systems, genetics, social aquaculture and indigenous communities, and digital transformation.

A special session on the ecology and cultivation of macrobrachium will be led by World Aquaculture Society member Dr Wagner Cotroni Valenti, a researcher and professor at the State University of Sao Paolo, Brazil.

Industry forum

All participants to LACQUA19, especially aquaculture producers, are invited to a day-long industry forum that will take place on November 21.

In the morning the forum will look at aquaculture in Costa Rica, which produces tilapia and other species such as shrimp, and in the afternoon private companies will participate in sessions such as:

  • Maximising the benefits of multi-enzymes for aquatic diets: Potential for growth and performance in tilapia led by Janielle Wallace, (invited by MSD). Wallace researched the potential of exogenous multi-enzyme supplementation of plant-based diets and the sustainability of farmed tilapia in Asia at the University of Stirling’s Institute of Aquaculture.
  • Sustainability in the marine fish industry of warm waters, an emerging market, led by Eduardo Coronas of Biomar.
  • Different types of vaccines for tilapia and their benefits, led by Luc Grisez of Merck.
  • Trace mineral role in the replacement of fishmeal led by Claudia Silva of Zinpro.

The deadline for abstract submissions to LACQUA19 is October 10. Abstracts can be submitted here. Presentations will be given mainly in Spanish, but Portuguese and English are also possible.
