10,000 salmon escape from slaughter plant
Around 10,000 salmon with an average weight of just under 4kg have escaped from a processing plant holding facility in Norway.
The escape took place at the Instefjord plant of Slakteriet Brekke AS near the mouth of one of Norway’s most famous fjords, the Sognefjord north of Bergen.
“There is reason to believe that there are about 10,000 escaped farmed salmon,” the Directorate of Fisheries said in a statement.
“The company has released recapture nets and has been instructed by the Directorate of Fisheries to extend the recapture activity to the Ortneset - Apestoda area.”
