From apprentice to ambassador

Cameron MacDonald, who is undertaking his modern apprentice SVQ level 2 while working at Marine Harvest (Scotland) Ltd, spoke at a seminar held in the Council Chambers in Stornoway on 29th September to discuss ‘How important is salmon farming to the Western Isles Economy’.

In front of the councillors and guests Cameron explained the apprenticeship programme he is undertaking and the experiences of working and training within MHS, and how he now has a list of qualifications “as long as his arm” which will be useful to him as his salmon farming career progresses and that many of these qualifications are also transferrable to other industries and sectors.

According to Marine Harvest: “Cameron’s presentation was the highlight of the seminar and, as a native of Stornoway, was extremely well received and prompted a large number of questions from the audience, who were obviously largely unaware of the career opportunities that modern salmon farming can offer.

“Towards the end of the seminar Cameron and MHS were asked if we would commit to Cameron acting as an ‘ambassador’ for our industry and visiting local schools to explain the career opportunities to school leavers, which of course we will.”
