EWOS Reveals The World’s Most Modern Fish Feed Factory
The new fish feed factory in the western part of Norway, has a production capacity of 250,000 tonnes per year and will be the world’s largest, most modern and most environmentally friendly fish feed factory. EWOS has invested NOK600 million in it’s Florø plant during the last three years, adding new capacity of 120,000 tonnes but also allowing the company to handle future expansion to meet expected growth in the fish feed market for the years to come. “This investment increases our ability to quickly implement further increases in production volume at a later date, if the market would indicate that” said Geir Molvik, Managing Director for EWOS AS.
More than 200 guests from Norway and abroad attended the opening celebration of the new factory. “This investment is an important part of our long-term strategy to be the most rational and effective fish feed producer in the future. This investment provides us with the necessary capacity to be able to reinforce our position in a growing market”, said Geir Molvik. The investments in Florø also provide EWOS with the ability to use diverse raw materials in production, enabling faster implementation of R&D results based on research carried out by EWOS Innovation. “Marine ingredients are limited. The fish feed industry must work actively to adopt different ingredients to ensure the industry's future sustainability” stated Vidar Ulriksen in his opening speech, before he declared the new EWOS factory open.
EWOS Norway last year produced about 415,000 tonnes of fish feed at the company's three factories in Florø, Halsa and Balsfjord. The company is part of EWOS group which in 2008 had a total turnover of NOK6.8 billion. The group is 100% owned by Cermaq ASA which is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange.
