Demand up in Russia and Brazil

According to figures from SalmonChile, the country exported 371,063 tonnes of salmonids in the first eight months of this year, worth US$2,331 million FOB Chile. Those figures represent a 3.8 per cent increase in volume and a 19 per cent decrease in value compared to the first eight months of 2014.

81,270 tonnes of those exports went to Japan - a 3.9 per cent decrease compared to the same period of 2014. Likewise, the returns from those exports experienced a 27.9 per cent decrease, falling to $474 million.

The volume of exports to the US totalled 94,096 tonnes, representing a 1.4 per cent decrease compared to the same period of 2014, while the value of the exports decreased 17.4 per cent, dropping to $812 million.

Exports to Brazil totalled 63,347 tonnes - a 12.2 per cent increase compared to the same period of 2014. Despite this, the value of the exports fell by 10.9 per cent, down to $334 million.

Finally, shipments to Russia totalled 41,034 tonnes in the first eight months of this year, representing a 62.3 per cent increase compared the same period of 2014. Returns from this market have experienced a 28.6 per cent increase, reaching $198 million.
