Chilean industry puts production growth on hold
Christian Pérez Data from the Chilean Under-secretariat of Fisheries shows that 820,735 tonnes of salmonids were harvested in Chile in 2012 and 793,400 tonnes last year. Meanwhile, according to information from the benchmarking programme of SGS, the Chilean salmon industry is expected to harvest around 803,142 tonnes this year. According to data from the benchmarking programme of Aquabench, both number of fish in seawater and expected number of smolt releases are this year almost unchanged compared to 2013.

Likewise, the local salmon producing company Multiexport says that the Chilean salmon industry is scaling down its growth, awaiting for future regulatory changes and industry consolidation. In this sense, Multiexport states that its Atlantic salmon releases have remained in 12 million smolts per year since 2011 and will not increase until the company achieves satisfactory biological performance.
