Global vision at virtual aquaculture conference
AquaVision, the Norwegian aquaculture conference held in Stavanger every two years, has announced the speakers for its first online event.
Hosted by feed makers Skretting and Nutreco, AquaVision 2020 will still ‘bring together the leaders, communities and stakeholders within the aquaculture industry’ said Nutreco CEO Rob Koremans.
The conference, which was launched in 1996 and has built a reputation for attracting aquaculture leaders from around the world, has traditionally been a major networking opportunity for the sector.
But Koremans said its novel format this year would still feature relevant issues, including digital innovation, ‘trust’ and ‘whether or not our industry will even survive the coming decades’.
Engagement
‘Going virtual means that we can reach more members of the industry and cultivate unprecedented global engagement,’ he said.
Among the speakers is Rachel Botsman, Trust Fellow at Oxford University, and author of Who Can You Trust? which explores how technology is transforming human trust.
Peter Hinssen, entrepreneur, adviser, keynote speaker and author, will provide insights into how to leverage digital platforms and data to ‘out-innovate competitors’.
Hinssen will focus on what corporates can learn from start-ups on the cultural dimension of innovation and change.
Also addressing the conference is Catherine Tubb, a researcher at the think tank RethinkX, analyst and co-author of the report, Rethinking Food and Agriculture 2020-2030: The second domestication of plants and animals, the disruption of the cow and the collapse of the industrial livestock industry.
Tubb will address the subject of the changing food landscape.
Keynote
AquaVision 2020 will be moderated by Pellegrino Riccardi, a regular at the event, which in the past has featured global figureheads, including the former UN secretary generals, Kofi Annan and Ban Ki-moon, to deliver keynote speeches.
In 2014, Bob Geldof spoke to delegates about the role of aquaculture in feeding the world.
Riccardi will be joined by Rob Koremans, Skretting CEO Therese Log Bergjord and Skretting procurement director Robert van den Breemer.
‘We need to bring more people into the conversation to tackle the challenges of tomorrow, today,’ said Log Bergjord.
‘If we are serious about addressing industry challenges we need to do it together. This is why I am thrilled that more of our industry stakeholders will be able to join the conversation. AquaVision 2020 is not to be missed.’
AquaVision 2020 will be broadcast from Stavanger on October 8. Registration is now open to all, free, at www.aquavision.org.
