Heading south for the winter

300 stands, representing nearly 1000 aquaculture companies, are currently being prepared for this week’s Aquasur trade show in Chile.

The 9th edition of the biennial event is taking place on 19-22 October, and is set to attract more than 20,000 visitors from the likes of Chile, Norway, UAE, Peru, Mexico, Brazil and Denmark.

The major organisations participating in the event include Cargill, Skretting, Biomar, Storvik Aqua, Pentair, Pharmaq, Novatech, Alltech Chile, Stofnfiskur, Fish Vet Group, Badinotti, MSD, Sernapesca, and ProChile.

One of the most eagerly anticipated parts of the 4-day fair is Aquaforum, which is set to include presentations by José Miguel Burgos, national director of Sernapesca; Einar Wathne, CEO Cargill Aqua; Jose Ramon Gutierrez, chairman of Multifood; and Geir Molvik, CEO of Cermaq.

Other highlights are anticipated to be the debut appearance from the Pacific Alliance assembly – where the Chilean, Peruvian, Mexican and Columbian authorities will meet; a bilateral meeting between Norway and Chile; and the international conference of the Global Initiative Salmon (GSI).

Salmonview, the media brand that includes Salmonexpert, Fish Farming Expert and Kyst, will be present at booth A219.

Erich Guerrero, general manager of Salmonexpert, said the stand will be a meeting point for clients and readers, adding that he will be handing out free copies of a special educational handbook, published by Salmonexpert, which is aimed for those new to the salmon industry.

“We cordially invite our readers and customers to visit our stand," he said.

Aquasur is being held on Route 5 Sur, Km 1,018, Puerto Montt. Times are Wednesday to Friday - exhibitors: 10am to 8pm and visitors: 10:30am to 7pm. Saturday 11:00am to 2pm.
