East Africa sets out its stall for aquaculture
Registration has opened for what is expected to be Africa’s biggest ever aquaculture conference and trade show, in Uganda from June 24-27 this year.
World Aquaculture Safari ’25 will take place at Speke Resort Munyonyo, which is around 25 miles from Entebbe airport and situated on the shores of Lake Victoria, the world’s second largest freshwater lake that is roughly the size of Ireland.
Appropriately, East Africa is the fastest growth area for aquaculture on the continent, predominantly due to the farming of tilapia, although several other species contribute to the sector.
Casting the net wide
African Regional Aquaculture (AFRAQ) conferences organised by the African chapter of the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) in Egypt (2022), Zambia (2023) and Tunisia (2024) have shown steady growth, but as a World Aquaculture Conference the Ugandan event is expected to have a broader appeal.
World Aquaculture Safari’25 will address key African topics such as tilapia and catfish production, but the conference will also cater for a global audience, covering a diverse range of papers, meetings, discussions, workshops and more.
The trade show is expected to assemble the largest selection of aquaculture goods and service providers under one roof, in Africa, to date.
More information and registration details are available at the WAS website.
