Evonik extends probiotics link with Vland
German speciality chemicals manufacturer Evonik has signed an expanded agreement with Chinese R&D company Vland to develop probiotics for animal nutrition, including aquaculture.
The agreement extends a deal signed in November last year to partner in probiotics for animals and enzymes for industrial applications.
The companies said in a press release that the combination of Vland’s core production technology and Evonik’s strong global market presence is expected to bring mutual benefits, including new product developments.
‘Stimulate innovation’
“The joint development agreement is expected to stimulate innovation and joint R&D activities in the field of selection, production, formulation and application of our new probiotic solution,” said Dr Emmanuel Auer, head of Evonik’s animal nutrition business line.
Qingdao-based Vland specialises in the research and development of four main product categories: enzymes, probiotics, vaccines and animal health products.
Evonik owns a 50% share of Veramaris, which produces algal oil for use in salmon feed. Its new $200 million plant in Blair, Nebraska, in the United States, is due to come on stream in the middle of this year and is expected to meet 15% of the current total annual demand for EPA and DHA by the salmon aquaculture industry.
