Aquaculture Europe ‘can go ahead’ in Madeira

The organisers of Aquaculture Europe 2021 are optimistic that it will go ahead in Madeira in October after the regional government of the Portuguese island ruled that events can now take place there with 50% seating capacity.

“Having also filed a formal request to the Madeiran Health Authority, we strongly believe that whatever the final format and capacity, the event can go ahead in Funchal,” said the European Aquaculture Society (EAS).

Aquaculture Europe is the continent’s largest annual gathering of aquaculture academics, and also draws many visitors working in or connected to fish farming.

Covid-19

Last year’s event, which was due to be held in Cork, Ireland, was postponed until this month because of the restrictions necessary to stop the spread of Covid-19 and was then converted into an online event when it became clear that those restrictions would still be in place.

“We have also decided to extend the deadline for abstract submission for oral-requested presentations to May 15 to give more time following our recent AE2020 ONLINE event for people to submit,” said the EAS.

“The new deadline is, however, a strict one and abstracts submitted later than this date will have significantly less chance of being accepted for oral presentation and will be assigned as Eposters in sessions that have reached their capacity. The deadline for submitting abstracts for Eposter presentation remains as August 28.”

Aquaculture Europe 2021, which is subtitled Oceans of Opportunity, is scheduled for October 5-8. Find out more about the event or book a place here.
