Indian aquaculture expert named as plenary speaker at World Aquaculture conference

The organisers of the World Aquaculture 2025 India conference due to be held in Hyderabad in November have announced Dr Subbanna Ayyappan as plenary speaker.

Ayyappan is a former deputy director-general of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and secretary to the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE).  He began his career in ICAR as a scientist at Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, in 1978.

With decades of experience in aquatic research and sustainable aquaculture practices, Ayyappan is a recognised expert in fisheries management and has played a pivotal role in shaping aquaculture policies and research initiatives in India and globally.

Optimism

Ayyappan has a degree in Fisheries Science, and a PhD in Aquatic Microbiology, and honorary doctorates conferred by 15 universities. He is also the recipient of several awards.

World Aquaculture 2025 India will take place from November 10-13, 2025 at Hyderabad International Convention Centre – Novotel and is a World Aquaculture Society event. Its theme is Aquaculture: Opportunities, Options, and Optimism.

Hyderabad has emerged as a key hub for freshwater fish farming, shrimp production, and other aquaculture ventures, helping meet the growing demand for seafood both in India and globally.
