
Salmonid harvest was down by 10.3% in Chile in January
The volume of farmed salmon and rainbow trout harvested in Chile in January was 96,300 tonnes, a fall of 10.1% compared to the same month last year, Fish Farming Expert's Chilean sister site, Salmonexpert.cl reports.
The volume of Atlantic salmon harvested was 55,800 tonnes (-10.3%). The fish were mainly produced in the Aysén and Los Lagos regions, with 29,000 tonnes and 15,000 tonnes, respectively.
The volume of coho salmon harvested in January was 37,400 tonnes (-5.2%), of which 20,800 tonnes was produced in Los Lagos and 15,600 tonnes in Aysén.
There were 3,100 tonnes of rainbow trout harvested last month, of which 2,900 tonnes came from Los Lagos.
Aquaculture lender Rabobank has forecast that Atlantic salmon production in Chile will grow by only 1% to 717,000 tonnes in 2025 and then by 3% to a total of 740,000 tonnes in 2026, with modest progress due to regulation.
