Funding available in PEI for cleaner and greener technologies
New aquaculture and fisheries programs are being funded by the government of Prince Edward Island(PEI).
The goal is to have a greener and more sustainable seafood industry operating in the Atlantic Canada region. The PEI Fisheries and Aquaculture Clean Technology Adoption Program will provide financial incentives to operations that adopt clean and green technologies that help the environment.
The programs offers a total of $300,000 annually to people and businesses that apply for the funding said Jamie Fox, minister of fisheries and communities, PEI. The amount of funding will be awarded on a case by case basis. Indigenous organizations (group, association or community), commercial enterprises and industry/ professional associations are encouraged to apply. Since the industry is small in PEI applicants have a high chance of receiving funding.
Partnership
"It's a partnership between the applicant and the department, where we can fund parts of proposals put forth by them as it applies to clean technology or better ways to process and handle our aquaculture or our fisher[ies] and new practices that make it sustainable for the future," said Fox in a news conference with local media.
The funding can be used for the implementation of market-ready:
Clean technologies;
Clean processes; and
Sustainable practices.
The first initiative is The Research, Innovation and Growth Program. It provides financial assistance to groups that want to address the challenges facing the local fishery and aquaculture sectors in PEI.
