Irish seafood companies offered help for succession planning

Published

Members of Ireland’s seafood sector are being invited to a business development conference hosted by the country’s seafood development agency, Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), next month.

The conference, Business Growth and Succession Planning in the Irish Seafood Sector, aims to raise awareness of key factors essential to driving business growth and the steps needed to take when developing a succession plan.

BIM says attendees will gain valuable insights from Irish and international keynote speakers, growth and succession planning experts, and food business owners, who will offer practical advice and share their experiences.

The agency adds that the conference is a vital starting point for companies looking to plan for the future and highlights BIM’s services designed to support businesses throughout the growth and succession planning process.

Details about registration for the event at Johnstown Estate in County Meath on February 26 will be released shortly.

BIM and the aquaculture branch of the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA Aquaculture) are also hosting a two-day mussel industry workshop next month.

The two-day event, which will be held on February 18 and 19 in the Maritime Hotel, County Cork, will bring together industry experts, marine scientists and market specialists to explore and discuss adaptation strategies in a changing environment.

Key topics on Tuesday, February 18 include climate change impacts on mussel ecosystems, adaptation strategies to changes in growth rates and spawning patterns, market trends, the figures behind the sustainability of mussel farming and perceptions of labelling.

On Wednesday, February 19, there will be a short workshop on larval sampling, environmental data collection and predicting spat settlements with a visit to local farms in Bantry Bay.

The event is supported by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund.
