Aquaculture Canada / WAS North America postponed
The Aquaculture Canada and WAS North America 2020 conference due to take place this autumn has been rescheduled for next year because of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The conference is a partnership between the Aquaculture Association of Canada (AAC), World Aquaculture Society (WAS) and the Newfoundland Aquaculture Industry Association (NAIA), and will feature hundreds of speakers and delegates from around the globe on the science, technology, business and social aspects of aquaculture.
It was due to be held from August 30 to September 2, 2020 at the St John’s Convention Centre, St John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, but will now be staged from August 29 to September 2, 2021, at the same venue.
Health is paramount
In a statement last night, organisers said Covid-19 had impacted all events and travel planning globally and that the health, safety and wellbeing of attendees was paramount in any decisions made by the Steering Committee. Health protection guidance in many countries had restricted global travel and halted large-scale public events.
All events and sessions for the conference will proceed as planned, albeit a year later than scheduled.
Submitted abstracts to date will continue to be processed by the Program Committee and all registrations will continue to be valid. The deadline for abstracts will be changed to April 2, 2021.
Delegates who have made accommodation arrangements are recommended to follow up with their hotel directly regarding cancellations, as hotel room bookings will not be rolled over to 2021.
Cork event postponed
Earlier this month it was announced that Europe’s largest gathering of aquaculture experts, Aquaculture Europe in Cork, Ireland, had been postponed from its original date this autumn until April next year.
It means there will be two Aquaculture Europe events next year: AE2020 in Cork from April 12-15 andAE2021 in Funchal, on the Portuguese island of Madeira, from October 5-8.
Other high profile events cancelled or postponed because of Covid-19 include Seafood Expo North America (postponed until September), Seafood Expo Global (cancelled) and the biennial Aquaculture UK (postponed until next year).
