AquaChile unveils new wellboat
Chile’s largest salmon farmer, AquaChile, has signed an exclusive contract with shipping and marine engineering company Detroit to lease a new wellboat that can carry 270 tonnes of live fish.
The vessel, called the EIR, adds to AquaChile’s existing fleet of 12 contracted wellboats, and will be used to ship live fish from its farms to collection centres for slaughter.
The EIR - which was built by Detroit companies in its shipyard in Itajai, Brazil - will begin operating from next Monday between the Aysén region and the Los Lagos region.
High biosecurity
AquaChile said the vessel’s technology allows it to meet the highest environmental standards in the world.
“We hope that this ship will help us to continue serving our plants with the best possible raw material, with extremely high biosecurity measures, and with good environmental performance,” said Leonardo González, AquaChile’s operations, logistics and supply manager, in a press release.
