AquaChile recycles 200 tonnes of plastic waste
Chile’s biggest salmon farmer, AquaChile, has recycled more than 200 tonnes of plastic in a year of working with Puerto Montt company Greenspot.
The initiative seeks to provide a sustainable solution for plastic material that must be replaced after it has completed its useful life. In this way, AquaChile has taken care of its industrial waste such as buoys, floats and pipes, it said in a press release.
“The work carried out this period together with AquaChile fills us with pride, since it has validated our work since 2016, installing the local circular economy in our region in a collaborative way and with real impact,” said Benjamín González, founder and chief executive of Greenspot.
Pellets
Items withdrawn from AquaChile’s operations are collected, and then undergo a series of processes in the Greenspot plant to transform them into plastic pellets that can be used to make different new products.
AquaChile community manager Francisco Sandoval said: “This alliance only bears positive results; it is waste that, when reused, does not take up space in landfills, therefore it contributes to the sustainability of the industry and also, from an economic point of view, it is an efficient solution.”
