4-star success
Aquachile, the country's largest salmon producer, has recently received four-star Best Aquaculture Practice (BAP) certification for its processing plants in Puerto Montt and Calbuco.
The certification means that Aquachile now has entirely BAP four-star products, as it has achieved the level for hatcheries, farms, processing plants and its feed plant.
According to the information provided by the company, this is part of its ongoing work to ensure that its entire production process meets the highest international standards.
"The four-star status is the highest rating in the BAP programme. We are very proud to have this for Atlantic salmon and trout. This certification reflects our commitment to sustainability and good practices. In addition, we thank the entire team of Aquachile who participated in the process," said the general manager of the company, Torben Petersen. He added that in the world there are eight salmon processing plants with the four-star status, two of which belong to Aquachile.
BAP is an international standard that considers key elements of responsible aquaculture, including environmental responsibility, social responsibility, food safety, animal health and welfare, and traceability.
