Salvaged service boat is battered but unbowed
The Norwegian fish farm service boat AQS Tor, which was washed off the deck of a stricken cargo ship in a storm, was safe in harbour today after being rescued by the tugboat Stadt Sløvåg.
The Moen Marin vessel, which is due to join the fleet of aquaculture services provider AQS, has some dents and scratches on its starboard flank, probably caused when it was torn off the deck of the Dutch cargo ship Eemslift Hendrika in rough seas.
Cargo in the freighter’s hold shifted in a storm on Monday, causing the ship to list dangerously to starboard and leading to the crew being airlifted to safety.
With the ship in danger of running aground and spilling 350 tonnes of heavy oil, rescue crews were lowered on to the freighter from a helicopter last night and succeeded in attaching tow lines to two rescue tugs.
The vessel, which has two other Moen Marin service boats on board, was today being towed to safety.
