Mikalsen spent more than a decade with Mowi, most recently as managing director of Mowi Global RMT Supply Chain & Trading. He was also a member of the Norwegian Seafood Council for four years until June 2019 and earlier in his career was head of organisation for Lidl Ireland.

“Andreas adds further weight and domain knowledge, and will be central to our growth ambitions,” said Aquabyte commercial director Anders Fossøy in a press release.

Aquabyte has introduced a new camera model.

All-in-one platform

Aquabyte has developed an all-in-one platform which it says provides fish farmers with critical services, and constitutes the intersection of data visualisation, machine learning and fish biology.

The Norway-based company wasn’t able to offer the service it wanted when its cage camera / machine learning systems were being trialled by a Scotland salmon farmer because its engineers couldn’t travel because of Covid restrictions. It says it has now solved global distribution issues with an advanced self-service model.

“For me, this is about developing the interface between humans, fish, technology and sustainability,” said Mikalsen. “In my view, data-driven decision support has great potential throughout the value chain from sea to table.”
