LiftUP sucked in by pump maker Framo

Norwegian equipment supplier LiftUP – best known for its mort collection system - has become part of pump manufacturer Framo after being bought by Framo’s parent company, Alfa Laval.

LiftUP also makes a sludge collection system for open net pens, developed with the help of salmon farmer Lerøy, the co-owner of Scottish Sea Farms. Framo said LiftUP’s products “fit like a glove” with Framo’s AquaStream system that replaces water to improve oxygen levels and temperatures inside closed and semi-closed cages.

“This acquisition by Alfa Laval develops an attractive aquaculture product portfolio and creates a sustainable growth platform for the future,” said Framo managing director Martijn Bergink in a press release. “LiftUP will, at the same time, gain access to Framo’s competence in pumps and Alfa Laval’s expertise in separation technology.”

Tremendous growth

“LiftUP has experienced tremendous growth and we are incredibly happy to have Framo as our new home. With their competence we will be able to develop and further improve our sludge collection system,” said LiftUP boss Liam Heffernan.

Oddbjørn Jacobsen, director of Framo Innovation, said: “Framo aims to be the leading supplier of systems meeting current and future aquaculture industry challenges. With LiftUP on our team we now have access to leading technology that is perfectly suitable for our focus within sustainable aquaculture.”

LiftUP’s sludge collection system for open cages was featured in Fish Farming Expert magazine last year. Read about it here.
