Norway salmon price jumps
The spot price of Norwegian salmon jumped by NOK 4.39 (£0.36) per kilo to NOK 61.4 / kg last week (week 47), according to statistics provider Akvafakta.
The price has not been that high since the summer and is NOK 17.26 / kg higher than the price in the same week last year.
The average price so far this year is NOK 56.34 / kg, compared to NOK 54.99 / kg last year at the same time.
Norway exported 33,722 tonnes of salmon (whole fish equivalent) last week, an almost identical volume to the same week in 2020. So far this year, Norway has exported 1.33 million tonnes wfe, 16.8% more than the same period last year.
Prices achieved for Scottish salmon are generally higher than those paid for Norwegian fish. In the third quarter of 2021, for example, Mowi Scotland’s salmon was fetching 125% of a global reference price, compared to 102% for Mowi’s Norwegian salmon.
