Huge leap for Norway salmon spot price
The market-setting spot price of Norwegian salmon rose last week with what is the second largest price jump in a week ever.
According to seafood statistics provider Akvafakta, the salmon price went up by NOK 10.82 / kg last week (week 21) and ended at NOK 65.42 / kg. Only once before has the spot price risen more in a week. That was in week 13 of 2018 when the price went up 11 NOK (to 75.76 NOK / kg).
The price last week was, for the first time since week 10 (the week before Norway imposed a lockdown due to Covid-19), above the same week a year ago. Last week, the price was NOK 8.42 / kg over week 21 in 2019.
Export volume
Also, the average price so far this year is back to above what it was at the same time last year. It is now NOK 62.34 / kg against NOK 62.15 / kg.
Norway exported 24,264 tonnes of salmon in week 21, 10% more than in the same week last year, and its highest weekly export volume since week 11.
So far this year, 432,000 tonnes have been exported by Norway, 0.5% less than at the same time last year.
