AKVA signs contract for 10,000-tonne Swedish salmon RAS
Aquaculture supplier AKVA has signed an engineering contract with Swedish company Premium Svensk Lax for a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) in Värmland, west central Sweden.
Premium Svensk Lax (PSL) has been granted permission by Swedish authorities to produce 10,000 tonnes of salmon in an on-land facility based on AKVA group’s sustainable zero water concept (ZWC). The ZWC technology consists of denitrification and phosphorous removal that purifies the process water for re-use in the farming system and minimises discharge levels.
PSL has chosen AKVA group as the preferred supplier for the delivery and installation of the RAS connected to the ZWC technology. The final delivery contract, if awarded, is worth around €95 million (£85m).
‘Major breakthrough’
“Obtaining authority approval for a land-based fish farming project in Sweden is a major breakthrough achieved by Premium Svensk Lax,” said Jacob Bregnballe, sales director of land based salmon projects in AKVA group. “We look forward to continuing our work with the ambitious team in Premium Svensk Lax.”
AKVA will put up to NOK 30 million (£2.5m) into the project, subject to PSL obtaining the necessary financing for the project and agreement on a final delivery contract.
