Los Fiordos set to double production

Sady Delgado, general manager of Los Fiordos, aims to double production in the coming years, with a view to supplying the growing market for salmon within Chile.

Los Fiordos is one of the five largest Chilean salmon producing companies and its growth prospects remain promising. One reason for Delgado's optimism is that it is the main supplier to Chile's domestic market, which they hope to double within five years, given the increasing value that consumers assign to these products.

How do you qualify this new period of regulatory changes established by the government?

We feel very positive, since the industry needs to regain competitiveness and adjust the current regulation to the market requirements and regulations.

Do you think this period of losses due to rising costs would freeze mergers and acquisitions in the salmon farming industry?

The current low profitability is due to both lower prices and higher production costs compared to our main competitor, Norway. However, this situation does not necessarily halt or freeze the development of mergers and acquisitions in the industry.

What is the status of your search to strengthen the company?

We are still reviewing options to enhance our salmon division in the long run.

To date, Los Fiordos is the only Chilean salmon producer with the production capacity, licences and locations available to double its capacity in the coming years.
