Chilean returns are recovering

The Chilean salmon industry obtained returns of US$ 1.3 billion in the first four months of the year - a decrease of US$ 22 million or 1.7 per cent compared to the same period of 2015.

Despite this decline, returns are slowly improving - the year-n-year difference was -6.4 per cent in February and -4.9 per cent in March, according to figures from the Central Bank of Chile.

Of the $1.3 billion total, $1.2 billion was accounted for by Atlantic and coho salmon products - a decrease of almost US$ 25 million or 2.2 per cent compared to the same period of the previous year.

The remaining $155 million were rainbow trout exports, which rose by 2.1 per cent compared to the first four months of 2015.
