Crewman dies in Norway wellboat tragedy

A member of a wellboat crew has died after being injured in an accident on the vessel in Norway.

The man, in his forties, was injured while working on the Rohav, owned by Rostein, according to a report in the Norwegian newspaper Nordlys.

Glen Bradley, vice-president of Rostein, told the newspaper that the shipping company had lost a very good colleague.

“We feel a great, great sorrow. We’re simply broken,” said Bradley.

Experienced employee

The man had worked for the company for several years and was an experienced employee. He was with three other colleagues when the accident occurred.

The wellboat was working in Bergsfjorden, on Outer Senja, Troms when the accident happened on Monday afternoon. The man was confirmed dead on the boat when health professionals came aboard, according to Nordlys.

The police reported to Nordlys that an attempt was made to resuscitate the man, but his life could not be saved. The witnesses of the accident are being supported by a crisis team today.
